'Speed Painting' is a silly name really, as I'm not actually painting fast in real time, speed painting is what the practice has been coined by the interweb, describing the painting footage being sped up as opposed to time lapsed.
The purpose of these videos, as well as entertainment, is to show the process a painting goes through from start to finish and the development I go through, imagine if you could have seen Picasso painting Guernica, Warhol printing Marilyn or Hurst cutting that cow in half…umm maybe not the latter. The videos become as much a part of the art as the painting itself, it's just as important and valued as the final painting, along with providing an archive and documentation of my art and me.
To add another dimension, as well as keep myself sane, I often act out a character or clown around at the start and end of the videos, this normally has context with the subject being painted, to me it acts as a 'don't take me too seriously', something I despise in the art world, so take me with a pinch of salt…take the painting seriously, not me.
